Airworthiness is the key issue in aviation. The operational needs and the varying environmental conditions demand strict control over all facets of design, manufacture, operation and maintenance of aircraft. The levels of safety and reliability necessitate an independent Regulatory Assurance System – a system which would anticipate potential failures, assess deviations in design and manufacture, simulate operational demands and evaluate and certify designs i.e. ensure airworthiness.
Regulatory System in India took shape in 1958 when the Resident Technical Office (Aircraft) was set up at Bangalore. CEMILAC was established in 1995 to consolidate certification work. In a span of five years CEMILAC has become one of DRDO’s significant agencies vested with the responsibility of Airworthiness and Certification of Military Aircraft and Airborne Stores. The CEMILAC Corporate Office, located in Bangalore has 14 Regional Centres spread all over the country each with a unique core competence.
